Prioritizing Education – Promising Youth
The Karen Peart Foundation (KPF) was founded in memory of Karen Peart, a Jamaican Moravian Christian who died in January 1994 at the age of 27 from complications associated with scleroderma. She was outstanding academically and sustained by her strong Christian faith. Karen was very involved in many auxiliaries of the Moravian Church and served as a mentor to scores of young people with whom she was keenly engaged. In tribute to her exemplary life, the KPF was established to provide opportunities for young Jamaicans of the Moravian Church to complete their secondary and tertiary studies, enabling them to make greater contributions to the development of our beloved country and the global community. With the generous help of many friends, family members and associates, the KPF fund has increased each year, helping more young students. As of 2021, more than 90 students have received scholarships and are now either gainfully employed or further along in their academic careers. Over the years, the KPF has also benefited from well supported fund-raising events such as dinners, concerts and stage plays. With confidence, perseverance, and through the grace of God, it will continue to expand its educational mission in Jamaica.

The scholarship helped me in my first year at UWI. I went through the first semester without a PC and some needed textbooks. The scholarship allowed me to purchase a laptop and those textbooks. I am forever grateful for this scholarship as it really made me more comfortable at university. I am still using the laptop to help me with my job and other advanced studies. Thanks again to the Karen Peart Foundation.
The road to becoming an attorney was very difficult due to significant financial challenges posed by cost of study for the bachelor’s degree and Norman Manley Law School. Had it not been for the Karen Peart Foundation Scholarship, I would not have been able to complete my studies and be here practising in the profession of my dreams. I am very grateful for that scholarship and I pray God’s richest blessings on the fund as it continues to fund education for Moravian students.
I must commend the KPF for the indelible mark that it has placed on my life and the lives of so many other beneficiaries. I received this scholarship at a pivotal time in my life when my family had limited options for financing my tertiary education. The KPF afforded me the “start” to what has been a dynamic and fulfilling professional journey. I pray God’s richest blessings on the Peart family as they continue to open their hearts to all of us through the memory of their dearest Karen. I encourage everyone to continue to support the fundraising efforts of this Trust so that many more Christian young people will be able to actualize their academic and professional dreams.
